Pretty Handmades Book Showcase Blog Tour


I had never quite sewn with felt. Not that I didn't like felt but because there was not a chance to and my sewing skill with felt was unsatisfactory. Well, today is the day for me to scream out loud that

"Wow, sewing with felt is actually so fun and satisfying!"



If you have yet to follow Lauren (@mollyandmama) on her IG or blog, I urge you to quickly go and add her! Lauren is an expert with felt sewing. So I am not at all surprised that she wrote such a wonderfully amazing book "Pretty Handmades" with a very beautiful pink cover. The projects in the book are seriously way too adorable! My daughter and I had such a great time flipping through the pretty pictures and negotiating which project to make. Of course she was the decision maker and wanted me to make six things for her??

In the end, she made one of the projects by herself.



Her current favouritest floral headband that she's going to show to her girly classmates tomorrow.



The sweet flowers were a breeze to make (they were supposed for the "Busy Bee Pin Cushion" project). Well, I used invisible thread for them. For the leaves, just cut them out.



I cannot believe she determined the positions and glued all the felt pieces all by herself (using a Daiso craft glue), without letting me to do even one flower.



I think she did a good job. The head band turned out really pretty .



Thanks to Lauren's book for our mom and daughter craft time and inspiring this young girl to make something pretty enough to wear everyday. We had so much laughter making this headband together.

*Sidetrack*

You can find affordable felt pieces and embroidery thread from Daiso that are great for the projects in this book. However, the felt are not heat resistant. Remember not to iron on them.

 And then, this crazy mom thought maybe a headband is not enough for a girl. So... she made another two hair accessories to complement. Yes,  I am the crazy mom.



How pretty! And so easy to make!



First, a felt flower hair tie perfect for little girls. I used the "Blossom Scissors Charm" floral template to make this.



I really enjoyed learning new techniques on felt sewing from this book. Especially the florals. I love the flower centre so much!



Next, it's a hair clip. My daughter wanted a smaller flower so I chose the peony template from the "Flower Friends Pin Cushion" project.



Here's the back with a recycled clip glued to the leave felt.



She couldn't wait to put on this clip right after the glue dried up. She loves it a lot.

I made something for my sister too!



Instead of a tea towel, I used the cupcake template to make a zipper pouch that is useful for her. There are many other sweet treats templates in the book.




Sewing the eyes, nose and smiling lips was my girl's idea. She's good at making things cuter.

Just yesterday, I decided to make one more project at the very last minute before uploading this blog post. Not sure what came to my mind but I had to make this one no matter what.



This "Lace Zipper Pouch" is a project in the book. It was love at first sight. But you guess as much that I did not plan to make another pouch...




Still... I did. I just could not resist.






Thank you Penny Rose Fabrics for sending these wonderful fabrics from Elea Lutz "Little Dolly" collection! In fact, all the projects I made for this blog tour is from the same "Little Dolly" collection.




The zipper was a beautiful gift from a very kind hearted friend.




I covered up the raw edges with bias binding instead of serging method as in the book.




Luckily it's not difficult to sew at all.





So in love with this boxy pouch!

This "Pretty Handmades" book is amazing in all ways. I especially like how versatile the templates are so I could use them to make other projects inspired by those in the book. The instructions are clear with step by step explanation. Most projects are simple and quick to make! There's a project for everyone. There are a few non-felt sewing projects too like the "Garden Path Mini Quilt" which is my next go-to sewing.
